Hope Academy is not a "school", as we do not maintain the student's official records.
We are a hybrid program catering to homeschooling families. Our model provides a full-curriculum classroom-experience twice a week, with parent oversight of the student's learning on the three at-home days.
There are two ways a student can be homeschooled and utilize our program:
File a California PSA
Parents who independently homeschool must file a Private School Affidavit (PSA) with the California Department of Education annually, This usually occurs in October of each year, but can be filed at any time. Line-by-line instructions for the PSA form can be found here courtesy of California Homeschool Network.
In this situation, the parent is considered the school of record and will maintain their student's academic records.
We highly encourage families homeschooling with this method to also hold a membership with HSLDA. HSLDA provides not only legal backing if the need arises, but support for the high school years including a transcript service for members. Holding an HSLDA membership card can also open the door to receiving educator discounts from many places, as it serves as an educator ID. Once you are enrolled at Hope Academy, ask us about our membership discount!
Partner with a Charter School
Parents may choose to enroll their child in a Charter School and still homeschool using Hope Academy's hybrid program.
In this case, the Charter School is considered the school of record and will maintain the student's academic records and create/provide the transcript. Families utilizing a Charter will not need an HSLDA membership.
Please note that as our program is faith-based, Charters may not allow funds to be used toward curriculum purchases, and Hope Academy does not accept charter funds for fees or activities sponsored through our organization.
Depending on your Charter's requirements, additional work samples above and beyond our curriculum may be required. This is the parent educator's responsibility to the Charter and is not provided by Hope Academy.
Hope Academy is not a vendor with any Charter School, and does not make curriculum choices with Charter requirements in mind. Please confer with your charter with regard to their requirements to decide if our model will work for you. Often, Charter Funds can be used to cover expenses incurred for educational purposes outside of Hope Academy.
As a homeschool program, Hope Academy is not accredited.
The subjects of Bible, English, Math, Social Studies, and Science are covered by the lesson plan each day, both on campus and at home, however home days can be flexible as to what is completed daily as long as the student is prepared to participate in the classroom for on-campus days and is accountable to the turn in schedule each week.
Hope Academy is designed to foster deeper levels of student independence. This prepares students for life beyond the high school years, whether they pursue college or a career immediately following graduation.
Hope Academy's on-campus teachers strive to provide the necessary instruction to support at-home completion of assignments. Students are then responsible for completing given assignments while parents facilitate and oversee the process at home to ensure their student’s success.
Parent oversight is essential for student success, but independent learning is a life-skill that students should be seeking to hone and parents should endeavor to support.
No. Hope Academy is designed as a cohort model, with students attending courses at grade-level together throughout the day. Unlike a University model where the student chooses classes, our model offers a typical set of courses for each grade level. There is an exception for math. Students may choose their math course. Students who do not wish to take the science or social studies class offered at their grade level may opt to have a supervised study hall.
We do find that, on occasion, a student has already taken a subject that is included on their grade level track. On a case-by-case basis, the Campus Director will work with the family to find a solution for their student during that portion of the on-campus day.
However, as Hope Academy offers a basic core of grade-level coursework that occupies all of the on-campus day, if this pertains to more than one course at grade-level then our model may not be honoring to your student's time and abilities.
Hope Academy is home to a selection of curricula that fosters a rich academic environment. We use developmentally appropriate curricula which is rigorous and provides for a seamless continuation of lessons from the classroom to home study.
Upon acceptance into the program, parents are provided a list of curricula to purchase for Bible, Math, Science, Social Studies, and English.
Tuition and fees are separate from curriculum costs.
Hope Academy does not offer team or individual sports on or off campus. For students desiring sporting opportunities, we recommend looking into the variety of individual or club sports and extracurricular activities available in the local community. This may be a good use of Charter funds for families who have partnered with a Charter school (check with your Charter to see if this is an option).
Yes. Hope Academy is a discipleship-focused program and this means we ask that students already acknowledge the Old and New Testaments of the Bible as the only Word of God, Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and they seek a daily relationship with Him.
